Cuicacalli Ballet Folklórico y Mariachi Juvenil La Misión - from San Francisco, California - will bring more than 20 youth and young adult Folklórico dancers and Mariachi musicians to the Española Valley on their first national tour. Cuicacalli (‘House of Culture’) founder and Director Jesus Cortes is an internationally acclaimed Mexican Folklórico dancer and choreographer who began his work as a young teaching artist in the Española Valley Public Schools ‘Arts in the Schools’ program. Cortes established Cuicacalli Ballet Folklórico y Mariachi Juvenil La Misión in San Francisco’s Mission District with his wife, Ariana Cortes, who is a master music teacher and leader of the Mariachi Juvenil La Misión.
The performance will also feature guests from Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Creations and Moving Arts Española, and will include a series of free workshops and performances and for local elementary school children through the Española Valley Public Schools prior to the evening performance.
