This intensive style workshop , for ages 10 and up (adult dancers are encouraged as well), will include ballet and modern technique classes, dance conditioning, repertoire, improvisation, and additional enrichment classes.
This workshop is designed to provide further insight into the dance industry as well as awareness of local and national opportunities for students aspiring to the dance profession. The workshop is open to any students in the northern New Mexico Region and will be followed by a special performance of New Mexico Dance Project’s original work, “Pieces of Yellow.”
The performance will feature students who opt-in to the performance component of the workshop and will be free to the public.
As is customary for New Mexico Dance Project productions, a talk back session will directly follow the performance.

About NMDP:
Erik Sampson received his formal education at Belhaven University, in Jackson, MS where he was the recipient of the Bezalel Award for outstanding artistic achievement and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Art in Dance. Erik’s education also includes training programs at the American Ballet Theater and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In 2012, Erik took part in a collaboration between Belhaven University and the Dong-Ah Institute for Media Arts, in Seoul Korea, focusing on the integration of dance and film. After his time in Korea, Erik moved to Houston, TX for a two-year contract with Uptown Dance Company. While living in Houston Erik also served as an instructor, choreographer and artistic consultant for several schools and companies. In 2014, Erik moved to Denver, CO and served as Site Director and Lead Life-Coach for Summit Education Group. During his time in Colorado Erik also co-founded the Arts Immersion program which later became the Immersion STEAM School. As director of the Denver campus, Erik was responsible for overseeing the curriculum implementation of over one hundred and sixty students studying in five different artistic disciplines (dance, theater, visual arts, film, and circus). Erik’s passion for seeing young people succeed in life is the driving force that propels his efforts as a teacher, director, and life-mentor for youth in the arts. Erik currently resides in Santa Fe, NM where he is Co-Director of New Mexico Dance Project along with his wife Scarlett.
Scarlett Wynne, born in Cologne, Germany, received her early dance training from her parents. She graduated from Belhaven University in 2011 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and was the recipient of the Bezalel Award, honoring outstanding artistic achievement. Prior to attaining her degree, Scarlett danced for Talk Dance Co. until graduating and taking a contract with the Georgia Ballet. Scarlett continued her professional career in Houston, TX where she danced for numerous companies including Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Uptown Dance Company, Sandra Organ Dance Company, and Ad Deum Dance Company. Afterward, she moved to Denver, CO to dance for Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet in an original work commissioned by the Denver Public Works commemorating the Babi Yar Holocast Memorial. During her time in Colorado, Scarlett also served as guest artist for Wonderbound from 2015-2017. In 2018, Scarlett accepted a company contract offer from The Big Muddy Dance Company in St. Louis, MO. Most recently, Scarlett resides in Santa Fe, NM where she is both the Founder and Artistic Director of New Mexico Dance Project.
